“We still need help”

Dec 2012

Tanqeed sat down with Mir Changaiz Khan Jamali, Federal Minister for Science and Technology in the ruling Pakistan People’s Party government and the MNA for Jaffarabad and Naseerabad (also known as the NA-266 seat) in Balochistan—one of the hardest-hit areas this summer. We wanted to get his take on the aftermath of this summer’s floods, three months after they took place. According to Jamali, the NDMA does not have an accurate overview of how many people died. Anywhere between 40,000 and 70,000 people still need shelter. And unless we address some of the underlying causes of flooding—canals that block water from draining out—we are in danger of seeing a repeat in 2013. Hear, or read, his interview in Tanqeed’s “After the floods | a conversations series.” Audio: Transcript: English | اردو
